EuroEyes has reached an important milestone for patients with cataracts. Last week, our teams in Hamburg and London treated the very first patients in Germany and the UK with the newest generation Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) from RxSight. It marks the beginning of a new era in which vision can be personalised after surgery, not just predicted before it.
Why this matters
Traditional lens selection relies on precise measurements taken before surgery. In many cases that works well, but not always. Our Hamburg case involved a mature cataract that made it difficult to calculate the exact lens power with confidence. Until now, that uncertainty could limit how precisely we could match a patient’s prescription and lifestyle needs.
The LAL changes the playbook. Once the adjustable lens is implanted, we can refine its power in the weeks after surgery using a dedicated Light Delivery Device. These light treatments let us guide the final outcome in small, accurate steps until vision is “just right” for distance and near tasks. When the target is reached, the prescription is permanently locked in and remains stable for life.
A smarter path to clarity
This technology offers a level of safety and flexibility that is especially helpful for eyes with a complex history. If you have previously had LASIK, radial keratotomy, or other corneal procedures, standard calculations can be less predictable. The LAL gives us room to fine-tune your result after the operation, rather than relying solely on estimates made beforehand. That means more control, more confidence and a smoother route to life with less dependence on glasses.
What to expect
- LAL implantation is performed like modern cataract surgery with a tiny incision and fast recovery.
- After your eye has settled, you return for a short series of light adjustments to dial in your prescription.
- When you are happy with the result, we complete a final set of light treatments to lock the lens in place.
Patients tell us the process feels reassuring. You are not hoping the maths was perfect weeks earlier. You are working with your surgeon to shape your own eyesight and confirm the result in real time.

Available now in Knightsbridge
